EARN IT. KEEP IT. SAVE IT.

    1. Use a small notebook to write down every penny that you spend each day. At the end of the week – look at where your money goes and think of ways you can reduce those expenditures. Check out www.mint.com for an online expense tracker.

    2. Update your skills, take on more leadership opportunities at work and use that in negotiating a better raise or higher paying position.

    3. If you have had a reduction in income, you might qualify for other government services. Check out findhelptn for online benefit screening – You can access it from the home page of this website.

    4. Did you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit; did you get your taxes prepared for free at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site? Call 2-1-1 for a VITA site nearest you.

    5. Save part of your refund for emergencies and pay off high interest credit card debt with the rest.

    6. Take advantage of employer 401-K matching retirement programs – Retirement may look far down the road but it gets here quick and most of us are ill prepared.

    7. Turn a hobby into cash and/ or trade services when possible.

    8. Plan now for future expenses – car insurance due every 6 months – put money aside for it each month and it won’t be so hard on the wallet when it’s due.

    9. Use coupons wisely, buy on sale, avoid making purchases through rent to own centers

    10. Know your credit score and work to improve it.
